About

I am a retired elder in The United Methodist Church. I served over 9 years in congregational ministry followed by nearly 27 years as an active-duty Army chaplain. I retired from the Army as a colonel and then served 6 years as the denominational endorsing agent for chaplains serving in government and other public institutions.

More basically, I am a member of Christ’s one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church who holds the Nicene Creed more dear than my institutional affiliation. I see myself most fully within the Great Tradition of the church and I love the Book of Common Prayer.

I have been posting to this site since 2005. In addition to writing about the Bible and Christian theology, I write about things related to Methodism, John Wesley, Christian history, and Christian worship. I also write about matters related to military chaplaincy, just war theory, religious freedom, and church-state relations. You might say, my interests are a mile wide and an inch deep.

The theme image for this site is a photo I made of Charlemagne’s tomb – der Karlsschrein – at Aachen Cathedral.
